Moscow Mule with Kombucha

Goodbye chilly days and hello summer nights! What could be better than a nice refreshing cocktail to sip on this summer? Oh right one that doesn’t mess with your bikini bod! I’ve designed a special cocktail that’s not only delicious, but it actually not so bad for you either. It’s my take on the Moscow Mule and you can find the recipe here on Runwayz Magazine

The Unicorn craze got real last week. You couldn’t scroll down your Instagram without seeing a colorful creation that Starbucks dubbed its new "it drink". Let get real though, Starbucks made a killing on a beverage because it was pretty and had a fun name, but those of us that were daring enough to actually take a sip of this unique creation know that this magical beverage tasted exactly what you'd expect 🦄💩 to taste like. With that said I created something that not only looks just as magical, but tastes amazing too. Head over to Runwayz Magazine to get my Unicorn Smoothie Recipe!

For those of you that haven't heard I am not a Food Contributor for Runwayz Magazine, so you can catch my food content on their website every Saturday.

FUEL YOUR SUMMER BOD WITH PB & CHOCOLATE

Energy balls are my favorite go to snack. Not only are they packed with delicious and healthy ingredients. They are also very filing and will help keep you focused throughout the day. Buying this bite size snack from the store can get a bit pricey though. We're talking $1.50 a pop (ouch). That’s why I designed a delcious recipe, to keep both your body and wallet happy! You can find it here on Runwayz Magazine.

If you head over there from my blog leave me a little love in the comment section!

Golden Milk Energy Balls

Hey babes,

As you all know I've been going strong on this food lifestyle change I made at the beginning of the new year. With my new clean eating I've been trying tons of new foods and beverages some I like some I don't, BUT golden milk is prob one thing that I really love. Especially because the Gaia herb golden milk mixture makes it so convenient (no this isn't sponsored I just really love this stuff). I love it so much that I knew their had to be other ways I could use I like a truffle of some sorts. Now for those of you that don't know I used to own a cake truffle company so I pretty much want to turn anything I find delicious into a cake truffle that's where I came up with the idea of golden milk energy balls. I did my homework and apparently I wasn't the first to think of this idea Arman from the blog "The Big Mans World" came up with an awesome recipe and I just modified it to use Gaia herb golden milk mixture and to make it raw too. (Gaia Herb Golden Milk can be found here)

A lot of people asked me on my Instagram post (@fashionstylefoodie , yes that was a shameless plug go follow me!), if these golden milk balls actually do give you "energy". Not in the artificial energy sense. Meaning that they're not going to hype you up like an energy drink, but in the natural sense it does give you energy. They keep you full and focused when you need to be. I find that 1 or 2 will do it, but their so yummy I find myself going for a third.

If you want to know all the amazing benefits of golden milk you can check out that post here.

Add in wet ingredients
Mix dough with your hands
Roll dough into mini cake balls
Add in toppings
Toss in toppings
Cake Ball perfection :-)
Now for the precise recipe aka my take on golden milk energy balls

Ingredients
* 1 3/4 cups gluten-free oat flour
* 1/4 cup coconut flour (can sub for almond or extra oat flour)
* 2 T granulated sweetener of choice (I used organic coconut sugar)
* 1 Tbls of Gaia herb golden milk mixture
* 1/4 cup refined coconut oil
* 1 tsp pure vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
* 1/4 cup cashew butter (can substituted for any nut butter)
* 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
* 1 Tbls milk - your choice, I used cashew.
* Extra coconut sugar and golden milk mixture, to roll bites in

Directions:

1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sweetener, golden milk mixture and mix well.
2. In another bowl mix your vanilla extract. Pour your wet mixture and coconut oil to the dry mixture and mix well. Depending on consistency, either add dairy free milk of choice or extra flour until a firm texture is formed.
3. Using your hands, form into small bite sized balls. Roll balls in optional granulated sweetener/golden milk mixture and place on a baking tray or plate. Refrigerate for at least 10 minutes to firm up.

Golden Milk aka The Magical Mylk

Golden Milk aka The Magical Mylk

My quick and easy version

Hey babes,

It's been a minute and I'm sorry, but I'm back and I have a delicious and magical treat for you called Golden Milk. This drink has been going around blogs and Instagram for awhile. The first time I heard of golden milk was over a year ago. Not only did it sound delicious the benefits seemed to good to be true. A beverage that aids in digestion, fights cancer and detoxifies your body among many other wonderful benefits seriously intrigued me. especially when it says it fights against alzheimer's disease. Since that runs in my family and theirs no known cure so if drinking this golden drink can help I'm prevent it I'm done to give it a try!

Let's get to the basics, golden milk can be made by mixing various spices together, but it's quite tricky if you don't know exactly what to use. For instance, adding black pepper to the spices will make the turmeric 1000% more absorbent. If you're not sure what to put into your golden milk mixture then I recommend giving a pre mixed package a try. The only one I've tried is Gaia Herb and all the ingredients are clean theirs nothing in it that's a chemical or preservative. I picked mine up over the weekend at Whole Foods it was on sale for $13.99 and when I went back today it was completely sold out! I recommend checking your local Whole Foods and if you can't find it there, you can find it here

How to make it, well if your going to go the from scratch route you'll have to find out exactly what to put inside of your milk just putting turmeric and spices isn't going to give you all of the benefits. Their are awesome from scratch recipes out their just make sure you're following a correct one. If you're going to use the Gaia herb then warm up a a plant based milk. I prefer coconut milk over almond milk (since almonds are not the best for you, but that's a completely different post).

Once your milk is simmering add in a teaspoon of your golden milk mixture stir it until it's completely combined then pour it into your mug and enjoy! It's that simple.

I recommend having this drink once a week. If your taking it for inflamed muscles or for a pre existing condition, try sipping on this twice a week. Leave me a 💛 emoji on my golden milk Instagram photo so I know you were here!

Just a few of the awesome benefits:
  • Better digestion
  • Happier muscles
  • A shield against colds and flu
  • Weight-loss support
  • A boost in good cholesterol
  • Detoxifies your body
  • Boots immunity
  • Makes skin GLOW
  • Helps with sleep
  • Reduces cramping-buh bye aunt flow
  • Protect against liver damage
  • Suppress symptoms associated with type 2 diabetes
  • Helps fight depression

Banana Nut Breakfast Cake

Banana Nut Breakfast Cake

GF and DF, V & NF options

Good Morning my loves :-)

I'm sharing with you today one of my favorite breakfast recipes ever. If you haven't already guessed from the title it's a banana nut breakfast cake! This breakfast cake can easily  be turned into a GF, V, DF & NF option all you have to do is use the substitute options I give.

First off go ahead an pre heat your oven to 350F Then go grab a:
Bowl
Wooden spoon
Measuring cup
Measuring spoons

Now that you grabbed all of that lets get baking! Below are the wet ingredient:
•4 very ripe banana's
•2TBLS of flax seed meal (ground flax seeds)
•1/3 cup of goats milk or for a vegan option use any plant based milk ***Fun fact goats milk is technically dairy free!***
•1/3 cup of melted coconut oil
•2 TBLS of pure maple syrup - save the Aunt Jemima for another time I'm talking about the grade A stuff that Queen B puts in her cayenne-lemonade drink 🍹🍋
•2TSP of pure vanilla extract

Mix all of the wet ingredients into your bowl then we can move on to the dry ingredients: (add all this into the same bowl no need to separate them, I'm always down for an easy clean up).

•1/4 and 2 TBLS of coconut sugar aka palm sugar
•1/2 cup rolled oats. For GF use GF rolled oats
•1 TSP of baking soda
•1/2 TSP of baking powder
•1/2 TSP of sea salt
•1 1/2 cup of brown rice flour

Okay so for a none nut free option I added in 1/2 a cup of chopped walnuts, but for a NF option you can use dairy free & nut free chocolate chips or you can add in both who's watching? 👀

Spray your pan with coconut oil  and evenly pour in your batter. Bake for 45mins then apply aluminum foil to the top and finish cooking for another 10mins or until done to your liking.

Now the best part of vegan and dairy free baking.. licking the bowl and spoon without hearing anyone say "your ganna get a belly ache" or my favorite "you know,  raw eggs are bad for you" NOT TODAY GUYS NOT TODAY you enjoy licking that bowl clean, every last drop! 😅

Homemade Raspberry Chia Seed Jam

Raspberry Chia Seed Jam, Made under 5mins!

Hello loves. I have a special treat for you this week, an extra post! I shared a photo of my raspberry  chia seed jam on my Instagram page and the reach out for the recipe was so high that I knew I couldn't leave you guys hanging. I'm literally obsessed with this stuff it's so easy to make and I put it on everything breakfast or snack related from toast to pancakes. It's a healthy swap for jelly and syrup. Now, I can't take all the credit for this jam. I got the idea from a friend. One day I brought  raspberries with me in a plastic bag to snack on and when I pulled them out they were all smashed up. My friend said "oh look you made jam"! At the time I was starving and didn't find it so funny, but since I hate to throw away food I decided that I would bring them home and find a use for them which leads me here to this yummy post!

Ingredients: All you need is
raspberries (I prefer to use organic),
chia seeds

Tools you'll need:
bowl
fork

Step one:
wash your raspberries and add them to your bowl. Then sprinkle half a table spoon of chia seeds on top then mash them up!

Step two:
Add your homemade raspberry chia seed jam to your toast or pancakes. I opted for a sprouted bread with goat cheese and layered my jam on top 😋

Step 3: Enjoy!
This is by far my favorite breakfast. It's yummy and healthy! I also like to sprinkle a few more chia seeds on top, but that's really it. Just 3 (really 2) easy steps to make delicious homemade chia seed jam! I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do. Happy Thursday everyone 😘

Detox•Mocktails

Hey loves! I know that the holiday festivities are beginning this weekend, but I'm already thinking about my New Years resolution. I'm saying I do in 2017 and I want to feel my absolute best. That's why I've been mixing up healthy mocktails to put me on the right track for 2017.

The first mocktail I mixed up was a pink detox tea. All you need is:
💖Sparkling Water (I get mine at Trader Joe's)
💖Fresh Lime
💖Cold Pressed Watermelon Juice
💖Apple Cider Vinegar with the mother (Braggs is the best).
You can take any cup I like to use a big mason jar  and fill it half way with sparkling water. Then I fill up the other half with the watermelon juice. I squeeze in the fresh lime and add 3 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar. ACV has so many amazing benefits you can read all about them here http://bit.ly/2dM21LD
The next mocktail is exactly the same, only I used a pineapple cold pressed juice instead. Now it's important that the juices are cold pressed because it's holding in all the nutrients/enzymes that you want from drinking a juice. If you don't drink cold pressed juices your basically drinking flavored water. Your body is not absorbing any nutrients/enzymes because they don't last long after a juice is made. Some people go as far as saying that if you don't make a juice out of a cold pressed juicer then it's not keeping its nutrients/enzymes at all. This is because centrifugal juicers are using a system that heats up the juice and that takes out all the nutrients/enzymes almost immediately. You can read more about it here http://huff.to/1b7ez7Y
The last mocktail that I whipped up was super easy because all I had to do was headed over to Starbucks. I to go ordered a venti shaken tea with lemonade and added a teaspoon of activated charcoal to it. Activated charcoal is s good for your body and draws out all toxins and impurities. I should mention that you shouldn't drink an activated charcoal drink daily it's not recommended. I like to have one 2 or 3 times a week. The activated charcoal that I use can be found here http://amzn.to/2i0m2RQ

I hope you guys enjoy these yummy mocktails  and leave me a comment on my instgram page @fashionstylefoodie to let me know which one you're going to try in the new year!

Healthy Banana Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Hello my lovelies,

I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving! Mine was full of family food and making my family help me put together my save the dates for my massive wedding (insert evil laugh here). I know my brides and brides to be know you need to get the free help where you can😊. They came out perfectly by the way and I’m totally obsessed with them. I had to share an image with you guys because well did I mention I’m obsessed with them?

Before I explain how I made these delicious (healthy) cookies I need to talk Gilmore Girls. If you haven’t yet watched a year in the life 4 part Netflix’s mini-series, then scroll down because I wouldn’t want to ruin the epic ending to a fan favorite for you.  -I’ll wait go ahead scroll-

Okay perfect now that we settled that let’s chat GG! Okay so I’ve been a GG diehard from the beginning and I love that all the characters I loved came back except for Chad Michael Murry, but, I’ll get over that. It was full of everything; love, heartbreak and a Paris Gellar meltdown what more could you ask for? I’ll tell you – NOT LEAVING ME IN SUPENSE! Rory is preggers?! It better be Logan and her love baby not the product of a wookie one nighter! I do love Logan and Rory together, but I doubt even if they decide to have another mini-series that they’ll give that to us. Logan will be her Christopher and Jess will be her Luke (so predictable). Even if I wrote the ending I still want more. MORE MORE MORE, I feel like that commercial with the little kids you know the one, “I want more I want more, when you like it you want more”.  We’ll I guess we’ll have to wait and see if they plan on creating another mini-series, but until then I’ll assume that Logan marries the rich French girl while Rory has his baby and she doesn’t tell him (hints the scene she had with her dad). She’ll fall in love with Jess then Logan will come back into the picture want to be a “father”, but his own father will come in-between them ending whatever romance could’ve been. Then Rory will ultimately end up with Jess, but hey that’s just my opinion leave me yours in the comments!

Okay so now lets get into how i made these delicious healthy cookies. I don't know about you guys, but I ate tons of food over the holiday weekend and now it's time to get serious about my wedding bod. I'm all about moderation and not starving myself so I found this delicious cookie recipe from Averie cooks and modified it to be slightly healthier then her version. They're very simple to whip up and unlike many other recipes I've tried these cookies came out moist and chewy! I hope you guys enjoy making them as much as I did. Go ahead and leave me a 🍌🍪 emoji on my Instagram post so I know you came from my blog. @FashionStyleFoodie

Ingredients:

  • 1 large egg
  • 2 small/medium
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup palm sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened (1/2 of 1 stick)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups old-fashioned gluten free whole rolled oats. not instant or quick-cook
  • 1 1/4 cups your favorite gluten free flour (I used coconut flour)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, added to taste
  • 1/2 tablespoon of chia seeds (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • A pinch of sea salt
  • 1 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions:

  1. To the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment (or large mixing bowl and electric mixer) combine the egg, bananas (I leave them whole and don't pre-mash them before adding to bowl), sugars, butter, vanilla, and beat on medium-high speed until well combined, about 4 minutes. The mixture won't be smooth, fluffy, or 'creamed' like traditional cookie dough and will have small chunks of bananas present and it's on the runnier side.
  2. Stop, scrape down the sides of the bowl, and add the oats, flour, chia seeds, cinnamon, nutmeg, baking soda, salt, and beat on low speed until just combined, about 1 minute.
  3. Stop, scrape down the sides of the bowl, and add the chocolate chips, and beat on low speed until just combined, about 30 seconds.
  4. Using a large cookie scoop, 1/4-cup measure, or your hands, form approximately 14 equal-sized mounds of dough. Tip - Strategically place a few chocolate chips on top of each mound of dough by taking chips from the underside and adding them on top.
  5. Place mounds on a large plate or tray, cover with plasticwrap, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, up to 5 days. This is a wetter, looser dough and isn't suitable for baking until it's been chilled. Do not bake with unchilled dough because cookies will bake thinner, flatter, and be more prone to spreading.
  6. Preheat oven to 350F, line a baking sheet with a Silpat or spray with cooking spray. Place dough mounds on baking sheet, spaced at least 2 inches apart (I bake 8 cookies per sheet) and bake for about 13 minutes (for very soft cookies, longer for more well-done cookies), or until edges have set and tops are just set, even if slightly undercooked, pale, and glossy in the center; don't overbake. Cookies firm up as they cool. Baking times could range widely due to the moisture content variances in bananas, climate and oven variances; bake until your cookies are done. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for about 10 minutes before serving. I let them cool on the baking sheet and don't use a rack.
  7. Cookies will keep airtight at room temperature for up to 1 week or in the freezer for up to 6 months. Alternatively, unbaked cookie dough can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or in the freezer for up to 4 months, so consider baking only as many cookies as desired and save the remaining dough to be baked in the future when desired.

New Mommy Gift Basket

Hello my loves,

If you follow me on Instagram @FashionStyleFoodie you already know that my sister and her husband welcomed this adorable face into the world last week. She has 10 little fingers and 10 tiny toes and shes absolutely perfect. It seems like every time I turn my head another one of my friends or family members is having a baby, it's total baby fever over here! I know that for the first born we typically have a baby shower and of course we had one for my sister, but I wanted to give her something special when she got home from the hospital.

I figured the baby has every outfit, bottle, bib and hair bow you can ever image, but what about mommy? After carrying baby for 9months and then everything that comes after baby arrives. I thought it was only fair to put together a little care package for my sister. I decided to through in a couple of things for baby and daddy too, but that's purely up to you. I also kept this basket under $100 you can set a limit or load it up either way a little gift to the new mom or any mom that just had a baby is greatly appreciated!

I filled my basket with items that would make the new mom feel good about her self like;

Green Tea Konjac Sponge: to help brighten up a tired complexion.
Dead Sea under eye treatment pads: for those days when you need help getting rid of dark circles.
Batiste Dry Shampoo: I'm not saying new moms don't shower, but when things get hectic sometimes you can't take the time to wash your hair so for those days I thought a dry shampoo would be helpful.
Orange Hydro Smoothing Cooling eye pads: These will help Mom feel relaxed, refreshed and ready to take on another hectic week.
Alba Organic Deodorant: When mom's decide to breastfeed  they need to be careful as to what deodorant they are applying making sure your deodorant is 100% certificated organic and aluminum free is very important.
By Nature Coconut Oil, Deep Conditioning Treatment: Although breastfeeding is the best option for newborns it take a toll on mom one side effect of breastfeed/post birth is brittle hair or hair-loss so i thought a deep conditioning treatment would be a nice at home fix to tryout.
Aroma therapy oils & Mini Machine: Having a new baby or adding to your family is beautiful, but also stressful. That's why its important for mom & dad to take moments for themselves to read a book or watch a show. Just make it that much more relaxing by adding some essential oil into the air to really create a calm and stress-free atmosphere.
Glass Bottle: Moms post birth should be drinking 7 bottles of water a day and if you haven't noticed I am a health freak, so I know how bad plastic is for our bodies. When I saw this adorable glass bottle I knew it would be the perfect addition to this new mommy basket.

I also added in a couple of food items for the new parents to share like these yummy Williams & Bennett Belgian Chocolate Drenched Cookie Sandwiches and a healthy Trail Mix.

Lastly I had to add in a couple of items for baby girl so I picked up a few items from The Honest Company Bath-Time Collection. Baby receive so many clothes and they can grow out of them so quickly, but bath-time supplies are always going to be welcome especially if they're full of clean ingredients.

I placed everything I purchased into a pretty mint green basket and tied it with a pink bow. I also put the deodorant in a cute little gift bag sealed with a decorative clothing pin to keep the personal item private. That was just my choice, but you can design your basket anyway you'd like! I also picked up that adorable card from papyrus, they always have pretty cards that fit every occasion.
